Cashless payments increasing in Finnish public transport

The rise of cashless payments in Finnish public transport continues as cash sales ended on Finnish trains on September 2019.

According to Yle Finnish state railway firm VR is to end cash sales of tickets on long-distance services. The company says ticket machines and conductors will from 1 September only accept cards or contactless payments.

The payment method trend in Finnish public transport is card payment as earlier, at the end of 2018, Helsinki Region Transport (HSL) and TVV lippu- ja maksujärjestelmä Oy (LMJ)., launched a procurement on Contactless EMV Payments on Public Transport aiming to procure contactless payment PSP solution for transit and contactless EMV readers.
